Purple Flag refers to a prestigious accreditation programme that recognises town and city centres for their excellence in managing the evening and night-time economy (ENTE). Association of Town Centre Managers (ATCM) sets the standards and manages the process for Purple Flag accreditation. The accreditation demonstrates that a town or city centre is safe, diverse, vibrant, and well-managed, offering a positive experience for visitors.
We are working towards the Purple Flag accreditation in Bishop’s Stortford, led by the Bishop’s Stortford BID and supported by the Police, including the Police & Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire, Jonathan Ash-Edwards, and the local authority.
How does it work?
ATCM sets the standards and manages the process, ensuring that accredited locations meet specific criteria for safety, diversity, appeal, and well-managed environments. Lighting, walking routes, transport links, cleanliness and staff training are all part of the criteria.
