To celebrate the coronation the BID are planning to turn the town red, white and blue and host a footfall boosting event on Sunday 7 May, full of local entertainment, creating a street party atmosphere. Here’s some details on the plans so far for you….
Market Square Street Party
Taking place on Sunday 7 May, this will be a free to attend event for the public with the aim to drive footfall into the town centre. We’ll be creating an entertainment area in Market Square and have invited a number of local choirs, musical theatre groups, dance groups, local bands to perform.
We will also produce a guide for the day and encourage people to stay on for lunch / dinner / cake / drinks / shopping in the town centre businesses.
The day will involve performances between 12 – 4 in Market Square from local groups such as the Bishop’s Stortford Ukulele Society and KBD Dance. More are currently being confirmed and the full line up will be shared soon.
The BID will decorate the Market Square area with balloons, banners and bunting to create an event space, but we’ll ensure no neighbouring businesses are blocked. There will be BID gazebo with a guide for the day and a goodie bag. Any business interested in adding anything to the goodie bag should contact us.
In addition we have on street entertainment to move around the town centre area, this includes some fabulous stilt walkers dressed at Horse Guards and a Disney prince and princess. They will, where possible, pop into businesses for social media photo opportunities.
We have been granted a road closure by HCC from the junction with Potter Street / Church Street and up through Potter Street & Market Square. This will enable a lot more space for people to enjoy the entertainment safely.
Town Centre Bunting
We are also arranging for large union jack flags and bunting using the fixtures and fittings already in place in North Street, South Street and Potter Street. This will go up at the end of April and stay for the summer.
We’ll also be providing additional bunting for town centre business to decorate their own premises as we aim to turn our town red white and blue!
