Lots of fun at the BID Coronation celebrations

The first event for the BID’s new term took place on Sunday 7 May in Market Square, celebrating the Coronation, Bishop’s Stortford style! It was fabulous to see so many people out and about enjoying the music, entertainment, giveaways and of course shopping, eating and drinking in the town too.

The BID organised a fun filled afternoon with some fantastic local talent taking to the stage area in Market Square. The selection of acts provided something for everyone, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to these wonderful groups who entertained us all. Starting off with the National Anthem and finishing the day with Good Save the King was very special

Performances from the day came from:

  • Bishop’s Stortford Band
  • KBD Dance (juniors)
  • Rock Choir
  • KBD Dance (seniors)
  • Bishop’s Stortford Ukulele Society
  • Bishop’s Stortford Musical Theatre Company

We were also joined by Cinderella and Prince Charming, who had a lot of fun interacting with the children and posing for photos. The stilt walking horse guards, were incredible, and a real sight to see. They even managed to dance along to the music! Our Mayor Dave Anderson and Town Crier Carole Williams also joined us to meet and greet everyone.

On the day we gave out 300 goodie bags, which were in great demand! The coronation branded bags were kindly supplied by Nockolds, and inside included discounts and gifts from Enable Financial, Heads You Win, Mullucks, Starbucks, Adnams, The Bish and Eden Hair. We also added 10 x £50 Discover Stortford vouchers for 10 lucky people to find, and to encourage them to return to the town to shop locally.

The Discover Stortford / Coronation Water Bottles were a huge hit too – another 300 given out, as well 500 Union Jack flags for people to wave given out and 200 little bags of Mr Simms sweets for the children.

As well all the fantastic performers, we’d like to say a few thank yous to everyone who made the day possible:

  • Party Box for the amazing Balloon arch to frame the stage area.
  • Dog’s Head for chairs for the band.
  • Jackson Square Shopping Centre who joined in the fun with a great selfie bench decorated and marching horseguards on parade.
  • Bishop’s Stortford Town Council – for their support of the event.
  • Martin Green from Cloud 9 for the great PA system and introducing all the performers.
  • The BID Board who helped out on the day.

We hope you all had a successful Coronation weekend. This event marked the first one for the BID this year, and we’re currently finalising plans for the rest of this year. If you do have any feedback or suggestions please email through to us on info@bishopsstortfordbid.co.uk.
